Excitement as Capt. Najomo Commissions Long-Abandoned NCAA Port Harcourt Regional Office

Staff of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) in the Port Harcourt Regional Office are celebrating the commissioning of their long-abandoned office accommodation, a project that had been left incomplete for over two decades.

The newly completed office was inaugurated on Friday by the Acting Director-General of the NCAA, Capt. Chris Najomo, at the Port Harcourt International Airport.

The project, which was initiated in 2002 but stalled at the carcass stage, was finally completed under Capt. Najomo’s leadership in less than a year.

During his remarks at the event, Capt. Najomo underscored the strategic importance of Port Harcourt as a hub for energy, commerce, and tourism.

He noted that the completion of the office aligns with the agency’s commitment to establishing world-class infrastructure to support Nigeria’s aviation sector.

“Port Harcourt plays a pivotal role in our nation’s aviation network. This facility will enhance operations and improve service delivery across the region,” Najomo stated.

The Port Harcourt Regional Office oversees operations at key airports and airstrips across the South-South and South-East regions, including Port Harcourt, Bayelsa, Enugu, Akwa Ibom, Asaba, Anambra, Imo, Calabar, and Warri.

Capt. Najomo also announced plans to complete the Kano Regional Office within weeks and pledged to build a state-of-the-art regional office in Enugu.

He called on stakeholders to collaborate with the NCAA in advancing aviation in Nigeria. “As we celebrate this achievement, I urge all stakeholders to continue to work with us in shaping the future of aviation in Nigeria. Together, we will soar higher and make our skies safer and more efficient for all users,” he added.

The commissioning of the Port Harcourt Regional Office represents a significant milestone, showcasing the leadership and dedication of Capt. Najomo in addressing long standing infrastructural gaps.

The Regional Manager of the NCAA Port Harcourt Regional Office, Mr. Oladipo Adebisi Titus, also expressed his delight at the completion of the project.

“This building project, which started over 20 years ago, seemed like it would never be achieved. Previous management abandoned it. As a regulatory body in the aviation industry, having a properly equipped office complex is crucial for restoring staff confidence and professionalism,” Titus remarked.

He highlighted how staff had previously faced taunts during inspections due to the agency’s lack of a proper office space.

With the new facility offering modern amenities and a conducive ambience, staff morale has significantly improved. “The excitement among staff is palpable. This office will undoubtedly enhance our efficiency and productivity,” he added.

The successful completion of the Port Harcourt Regional Office reinforces NCAA’s commitment to infrastructure development and operational excellence.
