NiMet Embarks on Capacity Development with Balanced Scorecard Workshop
In its bid to enhance organisational performance and align with global best practices, the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has conducted a one-day training session on the Balanced Scorecard Performance Management System for its Directors and senior management staff.
The workshop, held in Abuja on Wednesday, 11th December 2024, was organised in collaboration with Balanced Scorecard West Africa, a renowned management consulting firm.
Speaking at the opening of the workshop, the Director General and Chief Executive Officer of NiMet, Professor Charles Anosike, underscored the importance of the initiative, describing it as a strategic move towards advancing the agency’s operations.
He highlighted that the training aligns with the seven-point agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the performance bond signed with the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr Festus Keyamo, SAN.
This performance bond, according to Professor Anosike, underscores the development of human capacity as a critical pillar for progress within the aviation sector.
“This is a new journey for NiMet as we adopt the balanced scorecard performance management system, a globally recognised tool that translates strategy into measurable performance. This workshop is designed to improve our strategy formulation and enhance our creativity as an agency,” Professor Anosike stated.
He further explained that the balanced scorecard approach enables organisations to communicate their strategies effectively to all stakeholders while placing a premium on value creation.
“In today’s organisations, value is increasingly measured not in tangible assets but in the ideas of people, service delivery, supplier relationships, key information databases, and a culture of innovation and quality,” he noted.
Professor Anosike urged participants to fully embrace the concept of performance management, tying it to the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu.
“Strategy dictates the path forward. Success lies in execution and development. I encourage everyone at NiMet to see performance management as the foundation for our collective improvement,” he concluded.
The training session was facilitated by Mr Kayode Sufian, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Balanced Scorecard West Africa, who commended NiMet for taking proactive steps to strengthen its organisational capabilities.
