The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has reached new heights with the presentation of its ISO 9001 certification and the SERVICOM Award of Excellence to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo.

The milestone event, held in Abuja, highlights the agency’s unwavering commitment to excellence in airspace management and service delivery.

The Managing Director of NAMA, Engr. Farouk Ahmed Umar, led a delegation of senior management staff to officially hand over the ISO 9001 certification, which underscores NAMA’s adherence to global best practices in safety, efficiency, and operational standards.

The certification, achieved after an eight-year transformative journey, signifies compliance with the International Organisation for Standardisation’s benchmarks for quality management.

Speaking at the event, Festus Keyamo praised the accomplishment as a “perfect end-of-year gift” and a testament to the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The Minister commended NAMA for its dedication to reforming Nigeria’s airspace management, which has elevated the nation’s profile on the global aviation stage.

The ISO 9001 certification journey began in 2016, following a critical audit by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) that exposed significant gaps in Nigeria’s airspace infrastructure.

Through consistent efforts, strategic reforms, and investments in Communication, Navigation, and Surveillance (CNS) systems, NAMA successfully closed these gaps, culminating in this prestigious international recognition.

The certification of all five major airports in Nigeria further reinforces NAMA’s commitment to capacity building and operational excellence.

Adding to its list of accolades, NAMA was recently honoured by the SERVICOM Presidency as one of Nigeria’s top-performing service delivery agencies.

This recognition came in the form of the Award of Excellence for Quality Service Delivery, a first for NAMA since the establishment of its SERVICOM department in 2004.

Minister Keyamo, who accepted the award on the agency’s behalf, highlighted the critical role NAMA plays in bridging the gap between government and citizens through unparalleled service delivery.

Engr. Farouk Ahmed Umar, accompanied by key officials including Ndubuisi Lotenna Nmoneme (Director of Finance and Accounts), Dr. Abdullahi Musa (Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection), and Mr. Haske Jibrin (Senior Special Adviser to the Managing Director), expressed profound gratitude for the recognition.

He reaffirmed NAMA’s resolve to maintain its leadership role in advancing the aviation sector.

“These achievements serve as a benchmark for our unwavering commitment to safety, efficiency, and exceptional service delivery,” said Engr. Umar.

“They reflect NAMA’s dedication to transforming Nigeria’s aviation sector into a globally competitive industry,” he added.

Keyamo lauded NAMA’s leadership and staff for their transformative efforts, assuring them of the government’s continued support in further strengthening the aviation ecosystem.

These dual milestones – the ISO 9001 certification and SERVICOM Award – mark a significant step forward for Nigeria’s aviation sector.
