The Nigeria Customs Command and Staff College (NCCSC) in Gwagwalada marked a significant milestone on Monday, 16th December 2024, as it held a graduation ceremony for 100 officers who successfully completed the rigorous Senior Course 11 and Junior Course 20.
The event was graced by the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, and the Chairman of the House Committee on Customs and Excise, Honourable Leke Abejide, who jointly emphasised the need for professionalism and dedication in advancing the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and contributing to national development.
In his keynote address, CGC Adeniyi commended the graduating officers for their resilience and dedication throughout the intensive six-month training programme.
He urged them to embody the principles of professionalism, discipline, and the core values of the NCS in their respective postings.
Adeniyi underscored the critical role of their newly acquired skills in tackling pressing challenges such as border security breaches, smuggling activities, and revenue leakages.
“Your training has equipped you with the tools to not only enhance border security but also improve our revenue-generating capabilities. I charge you to remain disciplined and uphold the highest standards of professionalism as ambassadors of the Nigeria Customs Service,” Adeniyi stated.
Honourable Abejide, the Special Guest of Honour, lauded the graduates for their successful completion of the training programme, describing it as a stepping stone to greater responsibilities.
He stressed the importance of adhering to the newly enacted Customs Act 2023, which serves as a framework for the Service’s operations.
Abejide also called for continuous learning to keep pace with the dynamic nature of customs duties.
The Commandant of the College, Acting Assistant Comptroller-General (Ag. ACG) Oluyomi Adebakin, conferred the titles of Pass Senior Course (PSC) and Pass Junior Staff Course (PJSC) on the graduates.
She commended the officers for their perseverance and commitment, urging them to apply the principles of leadership, discipline, and professionalism in their roles.
One of the graduating officers, Chief Superintendent of Customs Abdullahi Ibrahim, expressed gratitude on behalf of his colleagues.
Reflecting on the training, he said, “The college instilled in us discipline, the harmonisation of customs procedures, and the ability to work under pressure. These lessons will guide us in our service to the nation.”
The graduation ceremony followed a regimental dinner held on 12th December 2024, a tradition of the College that fosters camaraderie and esprit de corps among officers.
Speaking at the dinner, CGC Adeniyi highlighted the importance of teamwork and mutual respect in fostering a collaborative work environment within the Service.
The event reaffirmed the NCS’s unwavering commitment to capacity building, ensuring that its officers are well-equipped to meet the evolving demands of border management and revenue generation.
