NCAA, Reps Committee Deepen Partnership to Boost Aviation Safety Compliance
The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and the House of Representatives Committee on Safety Standards and Regulations have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration aimed at enhancing safety compliance across Nigeria’s aviation sector.
This renewed partnership was underscored during an oversight visit by the committee to the NCAA headquarters in Abuja on March 30, 2026. The visit formed part of the committee’s statutory responsibility to evaluate adherence to safety standards among Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) nationwide.
Speaking during the engagement, the Director-General of Civil Aviation, Chris Najomo, reiterated the Authority’s unwavering commitment to maintaining and improving safety standards within the aviation industry.
He disclosed that the NCAA has already initiated several measures designed to address identified gaps, strengthen regulatory oversight, and enhance operational efficiency across the sector.
Najomo emphasised that the Authority remains proactive in aligning its regulatory framework with evolving global standards, noting that continuous improvements in safety systems are critical to sustaining confidence in Nigeria’s aviation industry.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the committee, David Idris Zacharias, clarified that the oversight visit was not intended as a fault-finding exercise but rather as part of a broader effort to support institutions in deepening safety culture and achieving continuous improvement.
He commended the NCAA for its progress in strengthening its safety architecture, particularly in areas such as emergency response planning, personnel training, and effective regulatory supervision of aviation operators. According to him, these strides demonstrate the Authority’s dedication to upholding safety as a core operational priority.
The lawmaker further explained that the ongoing nationwide assessments are designed to evaluate existing safety systems, emergency preparedness frameworks, and compliance with national occupational safety and health regulations.
He noted that the exercise aims to foster safer working environments while reinforcing regulatory compliance across critical sectors of the Nigerian economy.
Beyond evaluation, the visit also served as an opportunity to identify areas requiring further enhancement, including facility management, safety awareness initiatives, and infrastructure upgrades. These improvements, stakeholders believe, are essential to ensuring that Nigeria’s aviation industry continues to align with international best practices.
The strengthened collaboration between the NCAA and the House committee is expected to play a pivotal role in sustaining high safety standards, boosting institutional accountability, and reinforcing Nigeria’s position within the global aviation community.
