MMA2 Sweeps Top Honours at 15th NIGAV Awards, BASL Leadership Also Recognised
The Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal Two (MMA2), operated by Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited (BASL), has reaffirmed its status as a leading hub in Nigeria’s aviation landscape after clinching multiple accolades at the 15th edition of the Nigerian Aviation Awards and Ministerial Dinner.
The prestigious awards, decided through a rigorous public and industry-wide voting process, are widely regarded as a benchmark for excellence within Nigeria’s aviation sector, recognising organisations and individuals that drive innovation, operational efficiency, and superior service delivery.
At the ceremony, MMA2 emerged as one of the biggest winners of the night, securing the Best Nigeria Domestic Terminal of the Year award alongside the Best Airport Accessibility and Inclusivity Award.
In the individual categories, the Chairman of BASL, Wale Babalakin, was honoured with the Outstanding Aviation Entrepreneurial Award, while the Acting Chief Operating Officer/Head of Aeronautics and Cargo Services, Remi Jibodu, was named Passenger Terminal Manager of the Year.
The recognition for Best Domestic Terminal underscores MMA2’s sustained commitment to operational excellence, customer satisfaction, and orderly service delivery.
Since commencing operations nearly 19 years ago, the terminal has maintained a reputation for providing seamless and efficient passenger experiences, while continuously adapting to evolving industry standards and passenger expectations.
Industry observers have long described MMA2 as a model for airport terminal operations in Nigeria, with its enduring infrastructure and forward-thinking design continuing to support high levels of efficiency with minimal structural alterations.
Originally conceived with a futuristic outlook, the terminal’s layout and facilities have stood the test of time, reinforcing its position as a benchmark for domestic airport terminals nationwide.
Equally significant is the Best Airport Accessibility and Inclusivity Award, which highlights MMA2’s deliberate efforts to create a travel environment that caters to all categories of passengers.
Over the years, the terminal has prioritised improvements in accessibility and service culture, ensuring inclusivity remains central to its operations.
In a notable step towards enhancing passenger care, MMA2 recently conducted specialised training for its frontline personnel to better assist travellers on the autism spectrum, further strengthening its commitment to empathy-driven service delivery.
Reacting to the multiple honours, the management of BASL expressed gratitude to the award organisers and the wider aviation community, noting that the recognition serves as both validation and motivation.
“We are deeply honoured by this recognition from NIGAV and the aviation industry at large. It strengthens our resolve to continue raising the bar,” the management stated. “Our commitment remains unwavering – to deliver the highest standards of safety, security, and passenger experience. We will continue to invest in technology, training, and infrastructure to ensure MMA2 remains Nigeria’s airport terminal of choice.”
The management also commended the organisers of the NIGAV Awards for fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and healthy competition within the sector.
The latest recognition further consolidates MMA2’s reputation as a cornerstone of Nigeria’s domestic aviation network, as stakeholders continue to call for sustained investments and innovation to support the industry’s long-term growth.
