Emirates SkyCargo Expands Global Freight Operations with First Boeing 777-300ERSF Converted Freighter
Emirates SkyCargo has strengthened its position in the global air cargo industry with the deployment of the Boeing 777-300ERSF passenger-to-freighter converted aircraft, becoming the first airline cargo carrier to place the aircraft type into commercial service as it accelerates the expansion of its freighter fleet and worldwide network.
The landmark development underscores the Dubai-based cargo carrier’s commitment to meeting rising global demand for air freight services, particularly as cross-border e-commerce and time-sensitive cargo continue to drive growth in the aviation logistics sector.
The newly converted aircraft, bearing registration A6-EBK, commenced commercial operations with an inaugural flight from Hong Kong to Dubai, transporting more than 100 tonnes of cargo.
The route links one of the world’s busiest manufacturing and export centres with Emirates’ global logistics hub in Dubai, reinforcing the airline’s role in facilitating international trade.
According to Emirates SkyCargo, the Boeing 777-300ERSF significantly enhances its cargo-handling capabilities. The aircraft provides a payload capacity of 100 tonnes and offers 811 cubic metres of cargo volume, approximately 25 per cent more cargo space than the factory-built Boeing 777 Freighter.
The converted freighter is also equipped with 47 pallet positions, ten more than the Boeing 777-F, enabling it to accommodate larger quantities of lightweight, high-volume freight.
This makes it particularly suitable for transporting e-commerce consignments, consumer goods and other volumetric cargo that continue to dominate global supply chains.
Industry estimates indicate that e-commerce shipments now account for roughly 20 per cent of worldwide air cargo tonnage, with the segment expected to expand further as online retail continues to gain momentum across both developed and emerging markets.
Speaking on the significance of the aircraft’s entry into service, Emirates SkyCargo’s Divisional Senior Vice President, Badr Abbas, said the deployment marks another important chapter in the airline’s long-term fleet expansion strategy.
He explained that converting Boeing 777-300ER passenger aircraft into freighters allows Emirates to maximise the value of existing fleet assets while responding swiftly to growing global demand for dedicated cargo capacity.
Abbas noted that the converted aircraft complements the airline’s expanding fleet of Boeing 777-F production freighters, giving Emirates greater operational flexibility and the ability to serve more markets efficiently.
He added that the airline has already expanded its dedicated freighter network from just over 40 destinations in February 2026 to 62 destinations, with additional destinations expected to be added as more aircraft join the fleet.
According to him, the expansion enables Emirates SkyCargo to provide customers with scalable cargo capacity, enhanced connectivity and more efficient access to its strategically located Dubai hub, through which shipments are distributed to destinations across six continents.
The Boeing 777-300ERSF is the sixth freighter to join Emirates SkyCargo’s fleet since March 2026, following the induction of five new Boeing 777-F production freighters.

The airline has outlined an aggressive expansion programme aimed at increasing its dedicated cargo capacity over the next 18 months. Before the end of 2026, Emirates SkyCargo expects to receive five additional Boeing 777-F freighters alongside one more Boeing 777-300ERSF converted aircraft.
The carrier also plans to introduce three further converted Boeing 777-300ERSF freighters in 2027, significantly expanding its operational capabilities and strengthening its ability to respond to increasing demand across international cargo markets.
The continued expansion of Emirates SkyCargo’s fleet forms part of the airline’s broader strategy to play a greater role in supporting global supply chains by linking manufacturers, exporters and businesses with key consumer markets around the world.
Operating through its Dubai hub, the cargo carrier serves an extensive international network spanning six continents, connecting major production centres in Asia, Europe, Africa, the Middle East and the Americas.
The investment comes as the global air cargo industry experiences renewed growth, fuelled by rising demand for pharmaceuticals, perishables, electronics, industrial equipment and e-commerce goods requiring rapid transportation.
With the addition of the Boeing 777-300ERSF to its operations and a steady stream of new freighters scheduled for delivery, Emirates SkyCargo is positioning itself to increase capacity, improve operational efficiency and reinforce Dubai’s status as one of the world’s leading air cargo and logistics hubs.
