Delta Expands Premium Footprint at Los Angeles Airport with New Delta One Lounge

Delta Air Lines has taken another significant step in strengthening its premium travel offering at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) with the opening of the first phase of its second Delta One Lounge, reinforcing the airline’s long-term investment in one of its most important hubs ahead of the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The newly opened lounge, situated on the mezzanine level of Terminal 2, offers an exclusive 4,000-square-foot facility with seating for 75 guests. Although modest in size compared to Delta’s existing Delta One Lounge in Terminal 3, the new space has been designed to provide an intimate and refined environment focused on exceptional dining, personalised service and passenger comfort.

Delta confirmed that the second phase of the redevelopment will be completed in 2028, when the lounge will undergo a full transformation in line with the airline’s newest Delta One facilities across its network.

The project forms part of a broader expansion at LAX, where Delta is investing heavily in premium infrastructure. In addition to the Delta One Lounge, the airline plans to open an 11,000-square-foot Delta Sky Club in Terminal 2 in 2027.

By the time all developments are completed in 2028, Delta will operate four premium lounges at Los Angeles International Airport – two Delta One Lounges and two Delta Sky Clubs – covering approximately 60,000 square feet and providing seating for more than 1,000 passengers.

The expansion also increases Delta’s global lounge network to 60 locations, giving the airline what it describes as the largest lounge portfolio of any United States carrier.

Delta’s Vice President for Delta Sky Club and Lounge Experience, Megan Humphreys, said the investment reflects the airline’s commitment to meeting the growing demand for premium travel while enhancing every stage of the customer journey.

She noted that Delta continues to evaluate and optimise every available space across its network to ensure customers enjoy an experience that matches the high standards associated with the Delta One brand.

According to Humphreys, the airline’s objective is to create premium environments that combine comfort, efficiency and luxury while remaining consistent across its global network.

Unlike the larger Terminal 3 Delta One Lounge, the new Terminal 2 facility has been designed to provide a quieter and more exclusive atmosphere centred on high-quality culinary experiences.

Natural light streams through expansive windows overlooking the airfield, while artwork from seven Los Angeles-based artists showcases the city’s rich cultural identity and adds a distinctive local character to the lounge.

Passengers can also take advantage of premium amenities, including three private shower suites, four cabana-style bathrooms, wireless charging stations, portable computer monitors for business travellers and a fully stocked premium bar.

The airline said the completed second phase will introduce a redesigned lounge experience that reflects the contemporary design and luxury features available in Delta’s flagship lounges elsewhere around the world.

Delta has also integrated the lounge into a seamless premium airport journey.
Customers travelling in Delta One can access dedicated kerbside drop-off facilities at Terminal 3 before proceeding through an exclusive Delta One check-in and security area. They are then transported directly to the Terminal 2 lounge via Delta-operated golf carts, providing a smooth transition from arrival at the airport to boarding.

Food and beverage remain central to the new lounge experience. Delta’s Culinary Director, Michael Rouleau, explained that the menus have been developed around California’s agricultural heritage, using fresh, locally sourced ingredients throughout the year to create dishes that reflect the state’s diverse culinary traditions.

Guests are served restaurant-style meals at every table from an à la carte menu that rotates regularly.

Featured dishes include house-made lumache pasta with lamb bolognese, fresh hamachi crudo prepared using fish flown in daily from Japan and the lounge’s signature French onion soup.

Morning travellers can choose from breakfast options including acai bowls, huevos rancheros, freshly baked pastries and artisan copper-pot jams supplied daily by the well-known East Hollywood restaurant Sqirl.

Complementing the dining experience is an extensive beverage selection featuring handcrafted cocktails inspired by Delta’s international network.

Among the highlights is the “Island Sapphire”, a vibrant blue cocktail created in celebration of Delta’s Los Angeles-Honolulu service.

Guests also have access to freshly prepared smoothies, wellness juices such as the Vitality Shot made from coconut, turmeric and black pepper, speciality coffee from Santa Cruz-based Verve Coffee Roasters, premium teas and other refreshments.

Delta described the latest lounge opening as another milestone in its strategy to cement Los Angeles as its premier West Coast gateway.

The airline currently operates up to 151 peak-day departures from LAX to 50 destinations, connecting Southern California with key domestic and international markets.

Its expanding route network includes recently launched nonstop services to Hong Kong and Chicago O’Hare, while flights to Vancouver are due to begin on 21 November and services to Newark will commence in April 2027.

With passenger demand for premium travel continuing to increase, Delta said its ongoing investments in lounges, airport facilities and customer experience will play an important role in supporting future growth while preparing Los Angeles to welcome the influx of international visitors expected for the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
