Hyundai Targets Nigerian Families, Professionals With New Mufasa, Grand Creta SUVs
Hyundai Motors Nigeria has introduced two new sport utility vehicles (SUVs), the Hyundai Mufasa and Grand Creta, as the automaker seeks to broaden its appeal among Nigerian motorists seeking a combination of contemporary styling, performance, comfort and technology.
The introduction of the two models expands the company’s product offering in the country’s competitive automotive market, with the Mufasa positioned as a five-seater SUV for professionals and smaller families, while the Grand Creta caters to customers requiring additional passenger capacity and a more flexible cabin arrangement.
The vehicles reflect Hyundai’s strategy of offering mobility solutions for different customer categories while strengthening its presence in the SUV segment, which attracts buyers looking for vehicles capable of accommodating both everyday commuting and family travel.
Speaking at the launch, Hyundai Motors Nigeria’s General Manager, Sales and Marketing, Gaurav Vashisht, said the new models were developed to address changing customer expectations, particularly the growing emphasis on comfort, safety, technology and versatility.
“The SUV segment continues to attract strong interest in Nigeria, as customers increasingly prioritise comfort, safety, technology and versatility. With the introduction of the Hyundai Mufasa and Grand Creta, we are offering two distinctive vehicles designed to meet different lifestyle requirements while maintaining Hyundai’s global standards of quality and innovation,” he said.
The launch also reinforces the company’s commitment to providing Nigerian customers with a broader selection of vehicles backed by its dealership network and after-sales support.
The Hyundai Mufasa distinguishes itself through an assertive exterior design featuring a prominent front grille, signature LED lighting and muscular body proportions. Its styling is intended to give the vehicle a distinctive road presence while retaining the practicality required for everyday use.
Under the bonnet, the Mufasa features a 2.0-litre Smartstream multi-point injection petrol engine paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. Depending on the market specification, the powertrain produces approximately 150–160 PS and 193 Nm of torque.

The SUV uses a front-wheel-drive configuration and has a 54-litre fuel tank, making it suitable for urban commuting and longer journeys. However, its actual fuel consumption will depend on driving conditions, traffic and vehicle maintenance.
Measuring approximately 4,475mm in length, 1,850mm in width and up to 1,685mm in height, the Mufasa has a wheelbase of 2,680mm. Its five-seat cabin is designed to provide sufficient room for occupants while incorporating modern features intended to improve convenience.
The interior features a contemporary dashboard, digital displays and practical storage spaces. Depending on the variant, available equipment includes a touchscreen infotainment system, smartphone connectivity, automatic climate control, wireless charging and selectable driving modes.
Safety features available according to specification include an anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic stability control (ESC), airbags and parking assistance.
These features position the Mufasa as an option for motorists seeking a modern SUV that combines everyday practicality with technology and styling.
The Grand Creta, meanwhile, is designed to meet the needs of customers who prioritise passenger capacity and interior flexibility. Its three-row configuration accommodates up to seven occupants, making it suitable for larger households and motorists who frequently travel with family members or other passengers.
The vehicle is powered by an available 2.0-litre Smartstream petrol engine producing approximately 159 PS and 191 Nm of torque. Automatic variants are paired with a six-speed transmission designed to deliver smooth power delivery for city driving and longer trips.
With a wheelbase of 2,760mm, the Grand Creta offers a cabin layout intended to accommodate its three rows of seats. The flexible seating arrangement allows users to adjust the interior to suit passenger and luggage requirements.
Depending on the variant, the SUV comes with an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity, rear air-conditioning vents, keyless entry and push-button start.
Higher specifications may also include a digital instrument cluster, leather-appointed seats, ventilated front seats, automatic climate control, wireless charging and a panoramic sunroof.
The range of comfort and convenience features is intended to improve the experience for both drivers and passengers, particularly during longer journeys.
Safety equipment offered across Grand Creta variants includes six airbags, ABS, electronic stability control, hill-start assist, rear parking sensors, a rear-view camera and ISOFIX child-seat mounting points.
The inclusion of these features is aimed at improving occupant protection, supporting driver awareness and making parking and manoeuvring easier.
Beyond the launch, Hyundai Motors Nigeria says it is focusing on the broader ownership experience, including access to authorised dealerships, professional after-sales services and genuine spare parts.
Vashisht said the company’s objective was not merely to introduce new vehicles but also to establish lasting relationships with customers through dependable support.
“At Hyundai Motors Nigeria, our objective is not simply to introduce new vehicles but to deliver a complete ownership experience. The Hyundai Mufasa appeals to customers who appreciate bold design, modern technology and dynamic performance, while the Grand Creta provides the space, comfort and versatility required by larger families,” he said.
He added that the company remained committed to providing customers with more choices while building long-term confidence in the Hyundai brand.
The Mufasa and Grand Creta join Hyundai’s existing SUV line-up in Nigeria, which includes the Creta, Tucson, Santa Fe and Palisade, further broadening the options available to prospective buyers.
Their introduction comes at a time when vehicle purchasers are increasingly weighing initial acquisition costs against fuel consumption, maintenance expenses, spare-parts availability, safety and long-term ownership value.
For the Mufasa and Grand Creta to gain traction in the Nigerian market, their pricing and operating costs will be important alongside their specifications and design. The availability of reliable servicing and replacement parts will also influence customers’ purchasing decisions.
While the Mufasa targets buyers seeking a stylish five-seater with modern features, the Grand Creta offers an alternative for those who need additional seating and greater flexibility.
Together, the two models represent Hyundai’s latest effort to strengthen its position in Nigeria’s SUV market by catering to a wider range of driving needs and household requirements.
