Manchester United Sack Erik ten Hag Amid Disappointing Premier League Performance

Manchester United has announced the departure of manager Erik ten Hag, ending his tenure at Old Trafford.

The Dutch manager leaves the club with United struggling in 14th position in the Premier League, following a difficult start to the season.

United’s former player and assistant manager, Ruud van Nistelrooy, will step in as interim head coach while the club seeks a permanent replacement.

In an official statement, the club acknowledged ten Hag’s contributions: “Erik ten Hag has left his role as Manchester United men’s first-team manager. Erik was appointed in April 2022 and led the club to two domestic trophies, winning the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024.

“We are grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well for the future.”

Under ten Hag’s guidance, Manchester United ended a six-year trophy drought and clinched both the Carabao Cup and FA Cup.

However, recent performance struggles, including a 2-1 defeat to West Ham, saw United languishing in the lower half of the Premier League table, with only three wins from nine matches this season.

This troubling form, coupled with four defeats and two draws, reportedly led club officials to question the progression and momentum under ten Hag’s leadership, according to sources close to the club.

The club has assured fans that van Nistelrooy, a familiar and respected figure in the United community, will be supported by the existing coaching team as they aim to stabilise performance.

In the meantime, the recruitment process for a new head coach is underway, with hopes that the change will bring a renewed drive to the team.

This announcement marks a significant shift for the Red Devils, as they seek to realign with their longstanding tradition of competitive excellence in English football.
