NiMet staff undergo 2nd phase of training in Microsoft management

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has commenced the second phase of its Microsoft Learning Management Systems (LMS) training aimed at enhancing digital skills and fostering continuous development of staff.

According to NiMet, this three-day training programme, which started on the 29th of October and concludes on the 31st, is taking place at NiMet’s headquarters in Abuja and involves key management staff of the agency.

This training aligns with the strategic policy direction championed by NiMet’s Director General and Chief Executive Officer, Professor Charles Anosike.

His leadership aims to cultivate a culture of innovation, improvement, and continuous professional growth within the agency, as part of an overarching effort to modernise the Nigerian meteorological sector.

The initiative also meets a mandate set by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, who has urged agencies under the ministry to prioritise staff development in line with advancing their capabilities.

Professor Anosike expressed his belief in the transformative impact the LMS will have on NiMet’s training programmes.

“It will set a new standard for online learning within the agency and, by extension, open avenues for the public to gain insights into the products and services offered by NiMet,” Professor Anosike remarked, signalling the agency’s commitment to knowledge sharing and public engagement.

Adding further insights, Mr. Cyprian Okpalaku, Special Assistant on ICT to the DG/CEO of NiMet, emphasised the importance of the LMS training for the agency’s staff.

“This programme aims to develop the computer skills of our personnel and promote the adoption, usage, and integration of the LMS platform into daily operations. It will also foster synergy across all units and departments within NiMet,” he said.

The training serves as a platform for NiMet staff to adapt to evolving technological standards, ensuring the agency remains at the forefront of meteorological services in Nigeria.
