Chery Hits 20m Global Sales Milestone, Exports Top 200,000 in July

Chery Automobile has crossed the 20 million global vehicle sales mark, while becoming the first Chinese carmaker to export more than 200,000 vehicles in a single month, highlighting the accelerating international growth of the Chinese automotive industry.

The twin milestones further strengthen Chery’s position as one of China’s leading vehicle exporters, with the company’s overseas business becoming an increasingly important driver of its growth.

Chery’s cumulative global sales surpassed 20 million vehicles in July 2026, while its exports reached a record 202,533 units during the month, representing a 70.1 per cent year-on-year increase.

The July figure made Chery the first Chinese automobile manufacturer to cross the 200,000 monthly export threshold.

The milestone was celebrated by Carloha Nigeria, the authorised distributor of Chery vehicles in Nigeria, which said the achievement demonstrated the growing international acceptance of the brand.

Felix Mahan, General Manager, Marketing, Carloha Nigeria, said surpassing 20 million global sales reflected Chery’s sustained investment in innovation, quality, safety and customer satisfaction.

“For customers in Nigeria, this achievement provides even greater confidence that they are investing in a globally trusted automotive brand with proven success across international markets,” Mahan said.

Chery’s export performance has accelerated significantly in 2026. During the first seven months of the year, the group exported 1,146,350 vehicles, an increase of 71.2 per cent year on year, while cumulative sales reached 1,634,353 units, up 10.1 per cent.

In the first half alone, Chery exported 943,817 vehicles, up 71.5 per cent, equivalent to an average of one vehicle shipped overseas approximately every 17 seconds.

The company’s growing overseas footprint now covers more than 130 countries and regions, with nearly seven million overseas users. About one in every three Chery owners is now outside China, underlining the increasing importance of international markets to the company.

The export surge is also being supported by increasing demand for new-energy vehicles (NEVs). In July, Chery Group recorded total sales of 276,820 vehicles, including 129,067 NEVs, while exports exceeded 200,000 units for the first time.

The development comes as Chinese manufacturers intensify their push into overseas markets amid weaker domestic demand. China’s overall vehicle sales fell for a tenth consecutive month in July, while vehicle exports surged 88.2 per cent year on year to 923,000 units, according to industry data reported by Reuters.

Chery has responded by increasing investment in research and development, electrification, intelligent connectivity and advanced manufacturing, seeking to compete more aggressively with established global automotive brands.

In Nigeria, Carloha is expanding Chery’s presence through a range of SUVs and NEVs, supported by its CarlohaCare 6-6-7 ownership package.

The package includes a six-year warranty, six years of complimentary scheduled servicing, a seven-day repair promise and 24-hour nationwide rescue service.

“As Chery continues to break global records, Carloha Nigeria will ensure Nigerian customers enjoy not only globally acclaimed vehicles but also the exceptional ownership experience that distinguishes the Chery brand,” Mahan added.

Chery’s latest figures underline the rapid transformation of Chinese automakers from predominantly domestic manufacturers into increasingly significant players in the global vehicle market, particularly in exports and new-energy mobility.
