Enugu Air Secures Regulatory Nod for London Gatwick Flights, Targets December Take-off
Enugu Air has secured approval to commence international flight operations on the Lagos–London Gatwick route, in a development that signals the airline’s planned entry into the Nigeria–United Kingdom aviation market.
The airline has designated Omni-Blu Aviation (OBA) as the operator of the service under a strategic partnership, with bookings already open ahead of the planned commencement of flights in December 2026.
The approval is a significant milestone in Enugu Air’s expansion strategy, as the airline seeks to broaden its operational network and strengthen its participation in international air transport.
The proposed service will connect Lagos with London Gatwick, one of the United Kingdom’s major international airports, providing another travel option for passengers flying between Nigeria and Britain.
Enugu Air said the partnership with Omni-Blu Aviation would facilitate the introduction of the service, although it did not provide further operational details, including the type of aircraft to be deployed, the number of weekly frequencies or the exact date flights would begin.
The airline’s entry into the international market is expected to create additional opportunities for passenger movement, business travel, tourism and trade between the two countries.
The Nigeria–UK aviation corridor remains an important international market, with considerable passenger traffic generated by business engagements, educational pursuits, tourism, family visits and diaspora connections.
The introduction of the Lagos–London Gatwick service could provide additional capacity and expand the choices available to travellers, depending on the frequency and commercial structure of the operation.
Beyond its immediate commercial significance, Enugu Air described the development as part of a broader aviation transformation agenda being pursued by the Enugu State Government.
The airline credited Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah with providing the vision and leadership behind the state’s aviation development strategy, which is aimed at positioning Enugu as an emerging centre for international connectivity, investment, tourism and economic growth.
According to the airline, the governor’s strategic approach recognises aviation as an important driver of economic development and a platform for connecting businesses and communities to international opportunities.
The development also underscores the role of strategic partnerships in expanding airline operations, particularly in a market where international services require substantial operational capacity, regulatory compliance and commercial planning.
For Enugu Air, securing approval for the London route represents an opportunity to increase its visibility in the aviation industry and establish a foothold in the international market.
The airline will, however, need to demonstrate its operational preparedness and ability to compete effectively in the Nigeria–UK market when the service begins.
With reservations now open, attention will be on the airline’s preparations for the December launch and the extent to which the new service can deliver improved connectivity for passengers travelling between Lagos and London.
