Ethiopian Airlines Expands African Network with New Mauritius Service

Ethiopian Airlines has further expanded its African route network with the commencement of a new passenger service to Mauritius, strengthening air links between the Indian Ocean nation and destinations across the world.

The Pan-African carrier inaugurated the service on 12 July 2026, with flights scheduled to operate three times weekly between Addis Ababa and Mauritius.

The new route is expected to enhance connectivity for passengers travelling to and from Mauritius by providing seamless onward connections through Ethiopian Airlines’ hub in Addis Ababa to destinations across Africa, Europe, Asia, the Middle East and the Americas.

According to the airline, the introduction of the service forms part of its broader strategy to deepen air connectivity within Africa and improve links between the continent and the global travel market.

Ethiopian Airlines said the Mauritius route would also support the growth of tourism and trade, while promoting stronger economic and people-to-people relations between the two countries.

Mauritius, a major tourism destination renowned for its natural attractions and rich cultural heritage, has continued to attract leisure and business travellers from different parts of the world.

Its growing economy and strategic location in the Indian Ocean have also increased its importance in regional trade and tourism.

The airline believes that connecting the country directly with Addis Ababa will provide passengers with greater travel convenience and open up wider opportunities for tourism and commercial exchanges.

Speaking on the launch, Ethiopian Airlines Group Chief Executive Officer, Mesfin Tasew, said the new service demonstrated the carrier’s commitment to expanding travel options and bringing Mauritius closer to the international market.

“Mauritius is a destination of remarkable beauty, rich culture, and growing economic importance. By establishing a direct link between the country and our vast global network, we are pleased to offer convenient travel options to our passengers while bringing the world closer to Mauritius,” Tasew said.

He stressed that the airline would continue to use its extensive network to improve air links between African countries and other regions of the world.

“As a Pan-African airline, Ethiopian will continue to serve as a catalyst for enhanced air connectivity between Africa and the rest of the world,” the Group Chief Executive Officer added.

Ethiopian Airlines said passengers travelling on the Mauritius route would enjoy its hospitality services, modern aircraft and convenient connections through Addis Ababa.

The carrier noted that the route would give travellers from Mauritius easier access to its growing network of international destinations, while also creating additional travel options for tourists and business travellers heading to the island nation.

The launch comes as African airlines intensify efforts to improve intra-African connectivity and provide more efficient links between the continent’s economies and international markets.

Ethiopian Airlines said its continued network expansion remained central to its efforts to contribute to the development of aviation, tourism and economic integration across Africa.

The addition of Mauritius to its passenger network further reinforces the airline’s strategy of connecting more African destinations through Addis Ababa and positioning its hub as a major gateway between Africa and the rest of the world.
