Fidelity Bank, Foremost Radiology Promote Early Breast Cancer Detection

Fidelity Bank Plc and Foremost Radiology have partnered to promote early breast cancer detection and encourage women to seek timely medical attention as part of activities marking Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The initiative, being implemented through HerFidelity, the bank’s women-focused proposition, seeks to raise awareness about possible breast cancer warning signs, encourage professional medical evaluation and improve understanding of the importance of early diagnosis.

The campaign comes as Nigeria joins the global community in raising awareness about breast cancer, a disease whose outcomes can improve with timely diagnosis and access to appropriate treatment.

Breast cancer may present through a lump or thickening in the breast, changes in breast size or shape, alterations to the skin or nipple, or unusual nipple discharge.

Some of these changes may occur without pain, making it important for women to pay attention to their breast health rather than rely solely on discomfort as an indication of a possible problem.

Although such symptoms do not necessarily mean that a woman has cancer, health professionals advise that unusual changes should be evaluated promptly by qualified medical practitioners.

Through the campaign, Fidelity Bank and Foremost Radiology are seeking to move breast cancer awareness beyond symbolic expressions and statistics by promoting informed conversations, appropriate checks and timely medical intervention.

The initiative is anchored on the message, Know, Check, Act, which encourages women to understand their bodies, recognise unusual changes and seek professional medical advice when necessary.

A major component of the campaign is a webinar titled Beyond the Lump: The Role of Awareness and Imaging in Early Breast Cancer Detection, scheduled for Friday, October 16, 2026, at 10.00 a.m. West African Time.

The virtual engagement will feature Dr Alabi, a Consultant Radiation and Clinical Oncologist, who is expected to provide insights into breast cancer, its possible warning signs, the role of medical imaging and the importance of timely professional evaluation.

Participants will also have the opportunity to ask questions and obtain practical information to help them make informed decisions about their breast health.

The organisers said the webinar would provide an opportunity to address concerns about breast cancer and improve understanding of the importance of appropriate medical checks and diagnostic procedures.

Beyond the online engagement, HerFidelity is expected to conduct a breast health screening and awareness outreach at Oyingbo Market in Lagos on October 25, 2026.

The outreach is designed to take breast health information closer to women in one of Lagos’s busy commercial communities, particularly those whose work and business commitments may limit their access to health education programmes.

By engaging women in their business environment, the initiative seeks to reinforce the importance of recognising unusual breast changes and obtaining qualified medical attention rather than ignoring symptoms or relying on unverified information.

The organisers said the campaign was intended to promote awareness rather than fear, while encouraging women to take their health seriously and seek professional guidance when necessary.

HerFidelity was established by Fidelity Bank to support women through access to finance, business education, capacity building, entrepreneurship support, and health and wellness programmes.

The proposition reflects the bank’s position that sustainable economic empowerment requires more than access to capital, extending to the knowledge, confidence and wellbeing women need to build businesses, support their families and contribute to their communities.

Under its access-to-funding pillar, HerFidelity supports women seeking capital to establish or expand their businesses. Its business education and capacity-building programmes are designed to strengthen business management skills and promote sustainable growth.

The entrepreneurship support component provides opportunities for mentoring, development and networking, while the health and wellness pillar recognises the importance of women’s wellbeing to their personal and professional advancement.

Through its collaboration with Foremost Radiology, the bank is using the health and wellness component to deepen breast cancer awareness and encourage women to prioritise preventive healthcare and timely medical evaluation.

The partnership also highlights the connection between women’s health and economic participation, recognising that access to relevant health information and appropriate medical care can contribute to their ability to sustain businesses, support households and participate actively in society.

By combining financial inclusion with health awareness, Fidelity Bank is positioning women’s empowerment as a broader commitment to economic security, knowledge, confidence and wellbeing.

Women interested in participating in the October 16 webinar can register online through the designated registration portal.
