Fidelity Bank Plc has reinforced its commitment to corporate social responsibility with a comprehensive intervention aimed at improving the living and learning conditions of children at Heritage Homes Orphanage in Anthony Village, Lagos.

The intervention, carried out under the bank’s flagship Fidelity Helping Hands Programme (FHHP), saw the financial institution undertake critical infrastructure repairs, provide food supplies, fumigate the orphanage and settle the school fees of some of the children living at the facility.

The Fidelity Helping Hands Programme is an employee-led corporate social responsibility initiative that enables members of staff to identify impactful community projects, raise funds for their implementation and receive matching financial support from the bank to execute the projects.

The latest outreach was spearheaded by Fidelity Bank’s Audacious Class of newly inducted employees after identifying pressing needs at Heritage Homes Orphanage.

Among the interventions carried out were the replacement of the orphanage’s damaged roof and Plaster of Paris (POP) ceiling, fumigation of the premises to improve hygiene and safety, donation of essential food items and payment of school fees to ensure uninterrupted education for some of the children.

Speaking during the outreach, the Divisional Head of Brand and Communications at Fidelity Bank Plc, Dr Meksley Nwagboh, said the initiative reflects the bank’s philosophy of empowering employees to make meaningful contributions to the communities where they live and work.

According to him, the Fidelity Helping Hands Programme was established to provide staff with opportunities to devote their time, resources and skills to addressing critical social challenges.

He explained that the Audacious Class carefully assessed the orphanage’s immediate needs before implementing the interventions, which focused on infrastructure rehabilitation, food support and educational assistance.

Nwagboh noted that the programme was designed to create lasting value for communities rather than provide temporary relief.

He said the intervention had ensured that the children now have a safer environment with a secure roof over their heads, improved access to food and the assurance that some of them will continue their education without interruption.

He reaffirmed Fidelity Bank’s commitment to supporting initiatives that deliver sustainable social impact and improve the quality of life of vulnerable members of society.

The management of Heritage Homes Orphanage described the intervention as timely and life-changing.

Assistant General Manager of the orphanage, Irene Light, expressed gratitude to Fidelity Bank for responding to the institution’s pressing needs.

She said the bank completely renovated the damaged roof, replaced the faulty POP ceiling, fumigated the facility, donated food items and paid school fees for some of the children.

According to her, the intervention has brought much-needed relief and renewed hope to both the children and caregivers.

Light added that the improvements would restore dignity to the orphanage, provide a safer and healthier environment for the children and significantly enhance their overall wellbeing.

She also prayed for the continued growth and success of Fidelity Bank, commending the financial institution for demonstrating genuine concern for vulnerable children and making a positive difference in their lives.
