NCAA Engages Key Aviation Stakeholders to Fine-Tune Preparations for 2026 Hajj Airlift

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has intensified efforts to ensure a seamless and efficient 2026 Hajj airlift, convening a high-level stakeholders’ meeting at its headquarters in Abuja on 13 April 2026.

The strategic engagement brought together critical players across Nigeria’s aviation and Hajj operations ecosystem to evaluate preparedness, identify operational gaps, and address potential challenges ahead of the annual pilgrimage exercise.

Representing the Director-General of Civil Aviation, Captain Chris Ona Najomo, the Director of Aerodrome and Airspace Standards, Alhaji Ahmad Abba, who also chairs the NCAA Hajj In-House Committee, underscored the importance of early planning and coordination.

He explained that the meeting was convened as part of the Authority’s proactive approach to ensuring that all aspects of the Hajj airlift are carefully streamlined.

According to him, the forum provided an opportunity for stakeholders to critically assess readiness levels, while fostering collaboration among agencies responsible for various components of the operation.

A major highlight of the meeting was a series of technical briefings, including a virtual presentation by Captain Abdullahi Mahmood, who offered insights into operational expectations and coordination strategies for the airlift. Representatives from key aviation and regulatory bodies also delivered updates, reflecting ongoing preparations within their respective organisations.

Among the agencies present were the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), and the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).

Each provided situational reports on weather forecasting, airspace management, airport readiness, and pilgrimage coordination respectively.
The meeting also attracted participation from major airline operators involved in Hajj services, including Flynas, Umza Aviation, Air Peace, Max Air, Saudi Airlines, and Flyadeal, alongside the Association of Hajj and Umrah Operators of Nigeria (AHUON). Their presence underscored the collaborative framework required to successfully execute the large-scale airlift operation.

Senior officials of the NCAA were also in attendance, including the Deputy General Manager, Cost Recovery, Alhassan Balarabe; Flight Operations Inspector, Captain Ibrahim Yunusa; and the Deputy General Manager, Finance and Accounts, Alhaji Aminu Illo, who represented the Director of Finance and Accounts.

The engagement concluded on a cordial note, with the Director-General briefly joining participants for a group photograph, symbolising unity of purpose and shared commitment to delivering a safe, efficient, and well-coordinated 2026 Hajj operation.

The NCAA’s early stakeholder engagement signals a determined push to uphold global aviation standards while ensuring that Nigerian pilgrims enjoy a smooth and well-organised journey to and from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
