NCS Launches MIS File Tracker at PTML to Boost Customs Administration, Efficiency
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has launched a new Management Information System (MIS) File Tracker at the PTML Area Command as part of its ongoing drive to deepen digital transformation and improve administrative efficiency across the Service.
The pilot rollout, which commenced at the Port and Terminal Multi-services Limited (PTML) Area Command, is expected to streamline internal administrative processes, reduce reliance on manual documentation and support faster decision-making through a unified digital platform.
Speaking at the launch, the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, said the initiative forms part of the Service’s broader modernisation agenda aimed at leveraging technology to improve customs administration, enhance transparency and facilitate seamless trade.
Represented by the Deputy Comptroller-General in charge of ICT and Modernisation, DCC Oluyomi Adebakin, the CGC described the deployment of the MIS File Tracker as another significant milestone in the Service’s expanding digital transformation programme.
According to him, the initiative demonstrates the NCS’s commitment to deploying innovative technological solutions that improve operational efficiency while aligning the Service with global best practices in customs administration.
Adebakin reaffirmed the Service’s resolve to continue embracing technology to transform its operations and improve service delivery. She noted that the MIS File Tracker complements several digital reforms already introduced by the Customs Service, including the Nigeria Trade Portal and the Customs Verification Management System.
She explained that the introduction of the MIS File Tracker would further strengthen PTML Area Command’s reputation as one of the Service’s leading centres of innovation by simplifying administrative processes and improving workflow management.
According to her, the MIS is designed as an enterprise-wide platform for all Customs administrative activities. It functions as a Single Sign-On (SSO) application, enabling a unified database to be accessed and utilised across all departments for administrative purposes.
She urged officers of the Command to fully utilise the platform for a range of administrative functions, including leave and pass applications, file tracking, duty rosters, internal staff orders, nominal rolls and other personnel-related processes.
Adebakin added that the application also provides officers with opportunities to submit feedback on areas requiring modification, additional features or further improvements, ensuring continuous enhancement of the platform.
She expressed confidence that the deployment would significantly streamline internal workflows, minimise manual procedures and strengthen data-driven decision-making across the Nigeria Customs Service.
The PTML Area Command was selected as the pilot location because of its longstanding reputation as one of the Service’s most technologically advanced commands.
Over the years, the Command has served as the testing ground for several major Customs modernisation initiatives, including the Unified Customs Management System (UCMS), popularly known as B’Odogwu.
Speaking during the launch, the Acting Controller of PTML Area Command, Deputy Comptroller Nura Miko, expressed confidence in the Command’s readiness to ensure the successful implementation of the new platform.
He said the Command has consistently maximised technology-driven trade facilitation initiatives introduced by the Customs management and remains committed to maintaining its position as a leader in innovation.
Miko thanked the Comptroller-General of Customs for the confidence reposed in the Command, assuring him that officers and men of PTML would justify the trust by ensuring the successful rollout and implementation of the MIS File Tracker.
He disclosed that the Command is already working to improve its cargo clearance process by reducing the existing two-hour clearance timeline for compliant Roll-on/Roll-off (RoRo) cargoes to just one hour.
According to him, achieving this target would further enhance trade facilitation, improve operational efficiency and reinforce the Service’s commitment to providing faster and more efficient cargo clearance.
The Acting Controller described the MIS File Tracker as another bold innovation that would help sustain the Nigeria Customs Service’s position as one of Africa’s leading customs administrations.
He assured stakeholders that the PTML Area Command would remain fully committed to ensuring the successful implementation of the digital platform from the pilot phase through to full deployment across the Service.
