NiMet, DG Anosike Shine at 2025 Nigeria GovTech Public Service Awards for Excellence in Digital Innovation

The Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), Professor Charles Anosike, has received double honours at the 2025 edition of the Nigeria GovTech Public Service Awards, organised by the Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR) under the Presidency.
NiMet emerged as the winner of the “Best Federal MDA in Open Data Excellence” category, a recognition that celebrates its groundbreaking achievements in data transparency, innovation, and digital transformation within Nigeria’s public service landscape.
In addition to this institutional accolade, Professor Anosike was also bestowed with the Distinguished GovTech Trailblazer’s Award, highlighting his exceptional leadership and commitment to advancing technology-driven governance reforms.
The awards, which form part of the Nigeria GovTech Conference and Awards 2025, recognise individuals and institutions that have demonstrated excellence in harnessing technology to improve public service delivery, promote transparency, and enhance citizen engagement.
According to the BPSR, NiMet’s recognition was the result of its consistent efforts in deploying open data platforms and digital tools that ensure timely access to accurate meteorological information for climate resilience, disaster risk reduction, and sustainable socio-economic development.

Under Professor Anosike’s stewardship, NiMet has expanded its digital footprint through innovations in data collection, processing, and dissemination, making weather and climate information more accessible to farmers, policymakers, and other critical sectors.
His leadership has also seen the Agency intensify its collaborations with global meteorological institutions to align with international best practices.
Receiving the award, Professor Anosike expressed gratitude to the Presidency and the BPSR for acknowledging NiMet’s contributions to digital governance.
He reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s capacity for climate adaptation and disaster management through advanced data systems and digital innovation.
“This award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the entire NiMet team. It reflects our shared vision to build a technologically advanced meteorological system that supports national planning, economic growth, and the well-being of Nigerians,” Anosike said.
The Nigeria GovTech Conference and Awards, described as a flagship initiative of the BPSR, brings together a cross-section of stakeholders from government, technology, academia, and civil society to celebrate outstanding contributions in the digital governance space.
The platform seeks to drive reforms through innovation and encourage collaboration between the public and private sectors in advancing Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda.
By spotlighting forward-thinking leaders and institutions, the event aims to accelerate the transition toward a citizen-centred, efficient, and transparent public service ecosystem in Nigeria.
Also honoured at the ceremony were His Excellency Malam Umar A. Namadi, Executive Governor of Jigawa State, and His Excellency Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, Executive Governor of Adamawa State, among other notable awardees who were recognised for their exemplary contributions to governance and digital innovation in the public sector.
The recognition of NiMet and its Director-General reaffirms the Agency’s role as a driving force in the nation’s climate intelligence and digital transformation journey – solidifying its position among Africa’s most forward-looking meteorological institutions.
