Nigeria’s largest airline, Air Peace Limited, has strongly refuted allegations that its top executives are facing a tax lawsuit filed by the Lagos State Government, describing the reports as unfounded and lacking official basis.

In a statement released by its management, the airline clarified that neither its Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Allen Ifechukwu Onyema, nor its Vice Chairman, Alice Ojochide Onyema, has received any court summons or formal notification regarding the alleged legal action.

Air Peace expressed surprise at claims suggesting that the purported suit has been ongoing since February, stressing that such a development would ordinarily require proper service of legal documents, which has not occurred in this instance.

The airline described the situation as both puzzling and concerning, raising questions about the credibility of the reports.

Reiterating its stance on compliance, the airline maintained that all tax obligations – both corporate and personal – have been fully discharged in accordance with Nigerian tax laws and regulatory standards. It emphasised its commitment to transparency and accountability in its financial and operational dealings.

Nonetheless, the airline signalled its willingness to cooperate with authorities if any discrepancies are identified. It stated that the Onyemas and Air Peace are open to engaging with the Lagos State Government to review tax assessments and reconcile any potential differences, underscoring the importance of due process and constructive engagement.

The airline further highlighted its longstanding contributions to Nigeria’s aviation industry, noting that its leadership has consistently demonstrated resilience, integrity, and a strong sense of national duty. These values, it said, remain central to its corporate philosophy.

Air Peace reassured passengers and stakeholders that the controversy would not affect its operations or service delivery. The airline affirmed its commitment to maintaining high standards of professionalism while continuing to provide safe and efficient air travel services across its network.

The statement concluded with a firm declaration that the airline would remain focused on its mission and would not be distracted by what it considers unverified and speculative claims.

The development comes amid increasing attention on tax compliance and corporate governance in Nigeria, particularly involving high-profile organisations and industry leaders.
