Fidelity Bank Provides Food Relief to Over 1,000 Displaced Persons in Plateau

Fidelity Bank Plc has extended humanitarian support to more than 1,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State through its Fidelity Food Bank Initiative, providing essential food supplies to families displaced by violence and hardship.

The intervention, carried out in partnership with the Plateau State Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Office and supported by the ABBASID Charity Foundation, saw displaced families in transit camps receive food items including bags of rice, cartons of noodles and tomatoes as part of efforts to ease the burden of hunger.

The initiative forms part of the bank’s broader Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, which focuses on tackling food insecurity and supporting vulnerable communities across Nigeria.

Speaking during the distribution exercise, the Divisional Head of Brand and Communications at Fidelity Bank, Dr Meksley Nwagboh, said the Fidelity Food Bank Initiative was established to provide sustenance to vulnerable groups and demonstrate the bank’s commitment to improving the welfare of communities.

He noted that the bank was pleased to bring relief to families affected by displacement in Mangu, expressing hope that the intervention would help reduce hunger and provide much-needed support to households facing difficult circumstances.

According to him, the Fidelity Food Bank has become one of the bank’s flagship social intervention programmes, contributing to national efforts aimed at combating hunger and improving the quality of life of underserved communities across the country.

Nwagboh reaffirmed Fidelity Bank’s commitment to supporting communities through impactful humanitarian interventions, stressing that the institution would continue to partner with relevant stakeholders to reach more vulnerable Nigerians.

Also speaking, the Project Coordinator of the Plateau State Sustainable Development Goals Office, Mrs Nanbam Danjuma-Lot, described the food distribution as timely, considering the challenges confronting families living in internally displaced persons’ camps.

She recalled that many communities in Plateau State had suffered attacks and widespread destruction in recent years, leaving numerous families displaced and struggling to meet their daily needs.

Danjuma-Lot commended Fidelity Bank, the ABBASID Charity Foundation and other humanitarian organisations for working together to provide relief, saying the partnership reflected a shared commitment to helping affected persons recover and rebuild their lives.

The Founder of ABBASID Charity Foundation, Mrs Hauwa Abbas, also underscored the importance of partnerships in addressing food insecurity across the country.

She explained that the collaboration with Fidelity Bank had enabled the foundation to expand food support to vulnerable communities nationwide, disclosing that between 32 and 40 communities had so far benefited from the initiative.

According to Abbas, the programme has provided critical assistance to families battling hunger and economic hardship, demonstrating the impact of coordinated humanitarian efforts.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Village Head of Changal Community, Mr Titus Abednago, expressed gratitude to Fidelity Bank, the Plateau State Government and all partner organisations for the intervention.

He described the support as a source of hope for displaced families, saying it would go a long way in easing their suffering.
Abednago also appealed for sustained efforts to restore peace to affected communities, noting that many displaced residents were eager to return to their farms and resume their livelihoods.

The latest intervention reinforces Fidelity Bank’s growing emphasis on community development and humanitarian support through its Fidelity Food Bank Initiative, which has become one of the bank’s key platforms for reaching vulnerable populations across Nigeria.
