Overland Airways Rolls Out Discounted Osubi Flights for Itsekiri Global Homecoming
Overland Airways has been designated as the Official Airline Carrier for the 2026 Itsekiri Global Homecoming, a major cultural event expected to attract thousands of Itsekiri indigenes and visitors from across Nigeria and the diaspora to Warri next month.
The airline announced its appointment on Thursday, saying it would support the week-long celebration scheduled to hold from August 16 to 22, 2026, while also providing discounted airfares to facilitate travel to the event.
The Itsekiri Global Homecoming will coincide with activities marking the fifth anniversary of the coronation of the Olu of Warri, His Majesty Ogiame Atuwase III, making this year’s edition one of the most significant gatherings of the Itsekiri nation in recent years.
The event is expected to bring together sons and daughters of Itsekiri land, business leaders, traditional rulers, professionals and friends of the kingdom to celebrate the community’s rich cultural heritage, strengthen ties among indigenes and promote investment opportunities in the region.
Commenting on the partnership, the Chief Executive Officer of Overland Airways, Capt. Edward Boyo, described the appointment as a privilege for the airline and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives that foster community development and national integration.
Boyo, himself an Itsekiri, congratulated the Olu of Warri on the milestone anniversary of his reign, wishing the monarch continued good health, peace and prosperity.
He said the airline was honoured to identify with the Itsekiri Global Homecoming, noting that the celebration aligns with Overland Airways’ vision of connecting communities while promoting economic growth, commerce and cultural exchange.
According to him, the airline has spent the past 24 years providing dependable air transport services to underserved destinations and creating stronger links between communities across Nigeria.
He noted that the company’s participation in the Homecoming reflects its belief that aviation plays a critical role in facilitating tourism, investment and socio-economic development.
Overland Airways also highlighted its role in restoring scheduled airline operations to Osubi Airport in 2025, describing the move as a significant step in improving connectivity to Warri and surrounding communities.
The airline said it deployed its newly acquired Embraer E175 regional jet on the route, expanding travel options for passengers and supporting economic activities in Delta State and the wider Niger Delta region.
As the official airline for the Homecoming, Overland Airways announced special discounted fares on flights between Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos, and Osubi Airport, enabling participants to travel conveniently to the celebrations.
The airline said the promotional fares are available to travellers booking flights for the event, encouraging intending passengers to make early reservations.
Boyo reiterated that Overland Airways remains committed to providing safe, reliable and customer-focused services across its domestic network.
He added that the airline would continue investing in modern aircraft and service improvements to meet the growing needs of passengers while supporting the development of the communities it serves.
Overland Airways has in recent years modernised its operations by transitioning from an all-turboprop fleet to a mixed fleet following the introduction of brand-new Embraer E175 jets.
The airline said the fleet expansion underscores its long-term strategy of strengthening regional connectivity and delivering safe, affordable and efficient air travel while bringing people, cultures and businesses closer together.
