Access Bank Denies Shutdown Rumours, Affirms Financial Strength, Uninterrupted Operations
Access Bank Plc has dismissed as false a purported shutdown notice being circulated on social media and WhatsApp, reassuring customers, investors and other stakeholders that the bank remains financially sound and fully operational.
In a statement issued by the bank, Access Bank described the viral message as fake and misleading, stressing that all its banking operations, including those of its subsidiaries, are functioning normally and continuing to provide uninterrupted services to customers across its network.
The bank said the false report was the handiwork of individuals seeking to spread misinformation and create unnecessary panic among members of the public.
It assured customers that its financial position remains strong and stable, adding that there is no basis for the claims contained in the fabricated shutdown notice.
Access Bank also disclosed that it has commenced efforts to identify those behind the circulation of the false information.
According to the bank, it is collaborating with the relevant regulatory authorities and law enforcement agencies to trace the origin of the misleading publication.
The financial institution warned that anyone found responsible for originating or disseminating the fake notice would face legal consequences in line with the provisions of the law.
The bank specifically drew attention to Section 24 of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) (Amendment) Act, 2024, which criminalises the creation and dissemination of false information capable of causing public alarm, damaging reputations or undermining confidence in institutions.
It urged members of the public to disregard the fabricated shutdown notice and refrain from forwarding or sharing such unverified information, warning that doing so could contribute to unnecessary panic and expose individuals to legal liabilities.
Access Bank further advised customers, business partners and other stakeholders to obtain information relating to its operations only through its official and verified communication channels, rather than relying on unsubstantiated reports circulating on social media platforms.
The bank expressed appreciation to its customers, partners and stakeholders for their continued trust, loyalty and confidence, reaffirming its commitment to delivering seamless banking services and maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and customer service.
The clarification comes amid growing concerns over the spread of misinformation on digital platforms, with financial institutions increasingly urging customers to verify information through official channels before acting on or sharing such reports.
