Ethiopian Airlines unveils transformed domestic terminal at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport

Ethiopian Airlines, Africa’s largest airline, has proudly inaugurated its revamped Domestic Terminal at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport following a significant expansion and renovation project costing $50 million USD.

In a statement, the airline said the inaugurated project has more than doubled the terminal’s size to 25,750 square meters, enhancing its capacity to accommodate increasing passenger demand.

Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO, Mr. Mesfin Tasew, highlighted the company’s dedication to upgrading airport services and passenger experience.

“The Domestic terminal expansion and renovation at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport is a significant addition to our initiative of modernizing and renovating airports and aviation facilities in the country,” Mr. Tasew stated.

He emphasised that the upgraded terminal is a timely response to the growing domestic travel demand, ensuring a smoother travel experience for passengers.

Serving as the main hub for Ethiopian Airlines’ domestic operations, the newly inaugurated terminal handles over 200 daily flights to and from 22 domestic destinations.

The airline disclosed that the expansion introduces advanced airport systems and facilities, including four contact gates, 10 remote departure gates, 22 check-in counters with an automated hold baggage screening system, self-check-in kiosks, modern security screening, and a premier passenger lounge.

These upgrades are designed to streamline passenger flow, increase comfort, and enhance the overall travel experience.

The enhancements at Bole International Airport are part of a broader effort by Ethiopian Airlines to modernise aviation infrastructure across the country.

Recently, the airline launched thrice-weekly passenger flights to Dembi Dollo and opened new terminals at Gode and Jinka airports.

Future plans include opening several additional airports and reinstating daily flights to Axum, along with introducing thrice-weekly services to Nekemte.

Ethiopian Airlines’ investment in the Domestic Terminal is the latest in a series of strategic developments aimed at improving infrastructure and services.

The airline remains committed to delivering high levels of comfort, convenience, and safety while fostering economic, social, and tourism integration in Ethiopia, with a view to connecting people and businesses across Africa and beyond.
