Fidelity Bank Promotes 433 Employees, Says 13% Workforce Benefits From 2026 Exercise
Fidelity Bank Plc has promoted 433 employees under its 2026 Promotion and Notch Award Exercise, representing about 13 per cent of its workforce.
The latest exercise marks an increase in the proportion of employees promoted by the bank compared with previous years. In 2025, 376 employees, representing 12 per cent of the workforce, were promoted, while 337 employees, or 11 per cent, benefited from the 2024 exercise.
The bank said the annual promotion exercise was designed to recognise excellence, reward outstanding performance and strengthen a performance-driven culture across the organisation.
The initiative is part of the lender’s broader strategy of developing its workforce, strengthening institutional capacity and creating a pipeline of employees capable of taking on greater responsibilities.
Since Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe became Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Fidelity Bank, the institution has maintained annual promotion exercises aimed at recognising employee contributions and supporting career progression.
Beyond career advancement, the bank said it had continued to invest in staff welfare and workplace initiatives intended to improve productivity, employee satisfaction and overall wellbeing.
Among the measures introduced by the lender are salary reviews across all categories and grade levels in 2022, 2024 and 2025. The bank has also deployed staff buses to assist employees with commuting, enhanced medical support and expanded its learning and development programmes.
Fidelity Bank has further widened access to its mortgage loan and home ownership scheme, extending eligibility to employees from Assistant Banking Executive to Deputy Manager cadres.
It also increased the applicable mortgage limits for qualified employees in response to prevailing market conditions.
The bank said the initiative placed it among the relatively few institutions offering mortgage support to employees below the Manager cadre.
The lender has also sustained programmes focused on employee engagement, collaboration, work-life balance, professional certification and continuous skills development.
According to the bank, the various initiatives form part of its efforts to create a motivated and future-ready workforce capable of responding to changes in the financial services industry.
The 2026 promotion exercise also reflects the bank’s wider people strategy, which focuses on attracting, developing, rewarding and retaining talent.
Under the strategy, employees are assessed and recognised for attributes including discipline, professionalism, innovation, customer focus and sustained performance.
The bank said the approach was also intended to prepare employees for higher responsibilities while strengthening its position as an employer of choice in Nigeria’s financial services sector.
Industry observers have noted the growing emphasis among financial institutions on employee development, welfare and career progression as banks compete for skilled professionals in an increasingly technology-driven financial services environment.
Fidelity Bank’s latest promotion figures show a gradual increase in the proportion of employees benefiting from its annual promotion exercises, rising from 11 per cent in 2024 to 12 per cent in 2025 and 13 per cent in 2026.
The bank currently serves more than 10 million customers through its digital banking platforms and 255 business offices in Nigeria, as well as its United Kingdom subsidiary, FidBank UK Limited.
Fidelity Bank has also received a number of local and international recognitions in recent years.
Among them are the 2025 Development Bank of Nigeria Innovation Award for MSME support; Best Retail and SME Bank Award from Independent Newspapers; Best Bank for Export & Trade Finance and Most Innovative Bank of the Year at the 2025 BusinessDay Banks and Financial Institutions Awards.
The bank also received Nigeria’s Best Private Bank award at the 2025 Euromoney Awards, alongside the inaugural Most Improved Commercial Bank of the Year award by Nairametrics and SME Bank of the Year award by NewsDirect.
It also received the Straight-Through Processing Excellence Award from Citi Group and recognition from Global Brands Magazine for Excellence in Community Empowerment.
The latest promotion exercise therefore comes against the backdrop of the bank’s continued investment in employee development and efforts to strengthen its workforce as it expands its operations and digital banking capabilities.
