NAHCO Chairman’s Cup: Domestic Team secures victory with 3-0 win over Main Ramp
In a thrilling display of skill and determination, the Domestic Football Team, comprising players from GAT and MMA2 stations, clinched the prestigious NAHCO Chairman’s Cup by defeating the formidable Main Ramp team with a convincing 3-0 scoreline.
The final, held at the Nigeria Air Force playing pitch in Ikeja and graced by the Company’s Chairman, Dr. Seinde Oladapo Fadeni, witnessed an intense battle between arguably the best two teams of the competition.
Domestic FC, having navigated a challenging journey to the final, showcased their prowess by overcoming Main Ramp in a clash for the grand prize.
Domestic FC’s route to victory included a 0-1 loss to United, a 2-1 triumph over Import, and a commanding 3-0 victory against HQ/Pax in the group stage. Notably, they dominated the semi-final, defeating Cargo Ramp with an impressive 6-0 scoreline.
Main Ramp, on the other hand, showcased resilience throughout the tournament, overcoming Security 4-1, Cargo Ramp 3-2, and Export/Courier 3-2.
Their path to the final culminated in a hard-fought 4-3 win against United in the semi-final.
The title-deciding match saw Domestic FC take the lead with a goal from team captain Sunday Ogundare. Afeez Bamitefa, wearing jersey number 8, added to their tally with a clever play that resulted in an own goal by a Main Ramp defender.
The highest goal scorer of the competition, Victor Azum, sealed the victory with a confidently converted penalty, securing a 3-0 triumph.
The NAHCO Chairman, who kicked off the match, expressed his commendation for both teams’ exceptional performance. He shared his vision of NAHCO FC competing in the Nigerian professional league in the future.
The Chairman praised the losing team for their effort and acknowledged the winning team for their outstanding play.
Mr. Indranil Gupta, the Group CEO, emphasized the unity within NAHCO, highlighting that the victory ultimately belonged to the entire company.
Awards were presented to match officials, bronze medalists Cargo Ramp FC, silver medalists Main Ramp FC, and the champions, Domestic FC.
Individual awards went to Emmanuel Nkwocha (Main Ramp FC) as the Most Valuable Player (MVP), Victor Azum (Domestic FC) received the Golden Boot for being the highest goal scorer, and Ahmed Ibrahim (Domestic FC) was honored with the Golden Glove.
The NAHCO Chairman’s Cup, an annual inter-departmental football competition in Lagos, continues to foster camaraderie and sportsmanship among the various stations and departments within the company.
