Geely Galaxy Enters Nigerian Market, Partners TIM Motors to Drive Electric Mobility Expansion
Geely Galaxy, the premium new-energy vehicle brand under China’s Geely Auto Group, has announced its entry into the Nigerian market through an exclusive partnership with TIM Motors, signalling a major push to accelerate the adoption of electric and hybrid vehicles in the country.
The development positions Nigeria as a key market in Geely Galaxy’s African expansion strategy and reflects the company’s confidence in the country’s growing demand for sustainable and cost-effective mobility solutions.
Geely Auto Group, one of China’s largest automobile manufacturers, is the parent company of internationally recognised brands including Volvo, Polestar and Lotus. Established in 1986 and entering the automotive industry in 1997, the company has become a global force in both new-energy and conventional vehicle production.
With annual sales exceeding 3.4 million units, Geely currently ranks seventh among the world’s largest vehicle manufacturers. The company has earned a reputation for technological innovation, intelligent driving systems and quality products, with a rapidly expanding presence across international markets.
The company said Nigeria represents one of Africa’s most attractive growth destinations for new-energy vehicles, making the country a strategic market for Geely Galaxy’s long-term ambitions on the continent.
Geely Galaxy noted that its products are designed to address concerns frequently raised by Nigerian motorists, particularly the rising cost of fuel and the need for vehicles capable of operating effectively within existing infrastructure. The company said its range of electric and hybrid vehicles offers a combination of affordability, efficiency and performance.
To ensure seamless market penetration and customer support, Geely appointed TIM Motors as its local partner. The collaboration is expected to provide consumers with a comprehensive ownership experience, from vehicle acquisition to maintenance and aftersales services.
TIM Motors, a member of TIM International Group and Icheetah Nigeria Limited, has established itself in the automotive and logistics sectors through vehicle distribution, financing and assembly operations.
The company, which previously focused on heavy-duty trucks, has expanded into passenger vehicles with an emphasis on affordable Chinese brands.
Speaking on the partnership, the General Manager of the Passenger Vehicle Business Unit at TIM International, Leon Zhan, said the company was fully prepared to provide the support necessary to ensure customer confidence and convenience.
According to him, TIM Motors has put in place a nationwide aftersales network supported by service centres, spare parts supply and warranty coverage to guarantee reliability and ease of ownership.
He described electric vehicles as the future of transportation in Nigeria and expressed pride in bringing Geely Galaxy’s innovations closer to consumers.
“Electric vehicles represent the future of driving in Nigeria, and we are proud to bring that future closer to Nigerian consumers as the exclusive local partner of Geely Galaxy, a brand built on EV innovation, technology, and performance,” Zhan said.
He added that financing arrangements had also been introduced to make vehicle ownership more accessible, while comprehensive support structures covering warranty services and spare parts availability had been established.
As part of its market launch programme scheduled to hold in Lagos later this month, Geely Galaxy will unveil three models aimed at meeting the needs of different categories of motorists.
The first is the EX5 EM-i, a family-oriented sport utility vehicle that combines petrol and electric power, offering longer driving range, lower fuel consumption and reduced emissions.
The company will also introduce the EX5, a technology-driven mid-size SUV with a premium interior and a driving range of more than 430 kilometres.
Completing the line-up is the EX2, an all-electric compact hatchback developed for city commuting. The model is expected to appeal to motorists seeking relief from rising fuel costs and the inconvenience of fuel shortages.
Geely Galaxy and TIM Motors said the launch represents only the beginning of a wider expansion plan. Both companies intend to introduce additional electric and hybrid models tailored to Nigerian road conditions, while simultaneously extending dealership and service networks across major cities.
The official unveiling, themed “Powering the Future,” is expected to bring together business executives, media professionals, influencers and key opinion leaders, marking what the companies described as the beginning of a new chapter in Nigeria’s transition towards intelligent and sustainable mobility.
