The Kirikiri Lighter Terminal (KLT) Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has recorded a remarkable leap in revenue generation for the first quarter of 2025, achieving a 61% increase compared to the same period in 2024.

This was disclosed by the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller EJ Edelduok, during a media briefing held on April 15, 2025.

According to Comptroller Edelduok, the command generated a total of Thirty-Eight Billion, One Hundred and Five Million, Nine Hundred and Eighty-Seven Thousand, Nine Hundred and Fifteen Naira (N38,105,987,915.00) between January and March 2025.

This figure marks a significant improvement from the Twenty-Three Billion, Six Hundred and Sixty-Eight Million, Fifty-Six Thousand, Five Hundred and Thirty-Five Naira (N23,668,056,535.00) collected during the same period in 2024 — a difference of Fourteen Billion, Four Hundred and Thirty-Seven Million, Nine Hundred and Thirty-One Thousand, Three Hundred and Eighty Naira (N14,437,931,380.00).

She attributed the outstanding performance to enhanced revenue collection strategies and the dedication of officers and men of the command, particularly in curbing smuggling and illicit trade.

In addition to the revenue feat, Comptroller Edelduok announced the seizure of nine 40-foot containers of expired drugs, in clear violation of the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023.

The seized consignments, she said, would be officially handed over to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) for appropriate investigation and further regulatory action.

The Comptroller reiterated the Command’s unwavering commitment to transparency, efficiency, and national security. She emphasised the importance of stakeholder engagement and pledged to continue operating an open-door policy that encourages collaboration and voluntary compliance.

Expressing appreciation, she thanked stakeholders and partner agencies for their ongoing cooperation and called for sustained synergy to foster national development.

She also commended the officers and men of the Kirikiri Lighter Terminal Command for their integrity and professionalism in the fight against smuggling and urged them to remain steadfast and adhere strictly to the rules of engagement while executing their duties.

In a show of gratitude, Comptroller Edelduok lauded the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, and the NCS management team for providing the leadership, motivation, and enabling environment that have contributed to the command’s success.

She further extended her appreciation to the media for their invaluable role in informing and connecting the public to developments within the service.

The Kirikiri Lighter Terminal Command, under Comptroller Edelduok’s leadership, remains resolute in its commitment to safeguarding the nation’s economy and promoting lawful trade.
