The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has once again earned national acclaim as it was crowned the Best Corporate Spokesperson Team at the prestigious 5th National Spokespersons Awards 2025.

The highly anticipated ceremony took place at the Ladi Kwali Conference Centre of the Abuja Continental Hotel, drawing the crème de la crème of Nigeria’s communication and public relations landscape.

The awards event, which followed the two-day Nigeria Spokespersons Summit, was attended by an array of notable figures, including former and serving Ministers of Information such as Frank Nweke Jr., Lai Mohammed, Jerry Gana, and Labaran Maku.

The Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, was also present to lend his support to the celebration of excellence in public communication.

The summit itself was marked by high-level deliberations, anchored by a distinguished lineup of speakers.

Among them were media stalwart and former Ogun State Governor, Chief Segun Osoba; Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Tax Reform, Prof. Taiwo Oyedele; Founder of the Tonnie Iredia University of Communication, Prof. Tonnie Iredia; Managing Director of NECCI Consult, Dr Nkechi Ali-Balogun; Editor-in-Chief of 21st Century Chronicle, Mallam Mahmud Jega; and Chairman/CEO of TPT International, Chief Adetokunboh Modupe.

The awards ceremony commenced at 7:40 p.m. with a glamorous red carpet reception, complete with cocktails and networking, setting the tone for an evening of celebration and recognition of outstanding communication achievements.

Receiving the award on behalf of the Comptroller-General of Customs, the National Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Maiwada, conveyed heartfelt appreciation for the honour.

He emphasised that the accolade was a testament to the collective spirit and dedication of the entire Customs communication team.

“This award is not about one person – it represents the dedication and synergy of our entire public relations team. We have built a culture of collaboration and strategic engagement, focused on transparency, reputation management, and stakeholder communication,” Maiwada remarked.

He further noted that the win marks a continuation of the Service’s upward trajectory, having also been recognised at the 2024 edition of the awards.

“Winning again this year confirms that we are consistently raising the bar. We are committed to fostering trust and credibility through accurate and impactful public engagement,” he added.

The NCS was honoured alongside other leading institutions, underscoring the indispensable role of institutional communication and public relations in shaping governance and public sector effectiveness.

Themed “Voice of Influence, Champions of Change”, the event was organised by the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR). It featured keynote addresses by the Institute’s President and Chairman of Governing Council, Dr Ike Neliaku, and Honourable Joshua Audi Gana, among other dignitaries who applauded the strides made in institutional communication across the country.
