AWA Joins IATA Safety Leadership Charter, Reinforces Commitment to Global Aviation Standards

Africa World Airlines (AWA) has earned a prestigious milestone in its operational history with its official induction into the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Safety Leadership Charter, reinforcing the airline’s standing as one of the continent’s most safety-conscious carriers.
The announcement was made by Mr. Andrew D. Asante-Amankwa, AWA’s Head of Safety, who expressed pride in the airline’s achievement, stating, “We are proud to announce that Africa World Airlines (AWA) has officially been inducted into the prestigious IATA Safety Leadership Charter. This recognition highlights our unwavering commitment to fostering a strong safety culture across all levels of our organisation.”
By joining the IATA Safety Leadership Charter, AWA now stands among a select group of global airlines that have pledged to uphold the highest standards of safety leadership, personal and organisational accountability, and continuous safety improvement.
The Safety Leadership Charter was jointly signed by IATA Director General, Mr. Willie Walsh, and the Chief Executive Officer of AWA, Mr. Luo Cheng (Cui), marking a firm commitment by both industry leaders and the global aviation body to champion the continuous evolution of safety culture in air transport.
The Charter, built on the foundational belief that a positive safety culture is central to operational excellence, encourages open reporting, facilitates proactive management of safety risks, and cultivates trust-based employee engagement. It further emphasises that safety is not merely a regulatory obligation but an essential enabler of a thriving, sustainable aviation industry.
AWA’s inclusion in this elite cohort of airlines signals its resolve to not only meet but exceed international safety benchmarks, in alignment with IATA’s vision of global aviation safety leadership.
Established in 2010, Africa World Airlines is a Ghana-based carrier with regional operations across West Africa.
Its induction into the IATA Safety Leadership Charter affirms the airline’s ongoing strides toward excellence and its contribution to shaping a safer and more resilient aviation landscape in Africa and beyond.
