BASL Reiterates Zero-Tolerance Policy After Violent Passenger Disrupts Operations at MMA2

Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited (BASL), operators of Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal Two (MMA2), has reaffirmed its uncompromising zero-tolerance stance on unruly passenger conduct following a violent incident involving an Ibom Air passenger on Sunday.
The disturbance occurred on 10 August 2025 at approximately 2:30 p.m., when Ms. Comfort Emmanson arrived in Lagos aboard Ibom Air flight QI 513 from Uyo.
According to BASL, the passenger displayed “multiple acts of aggression and non-compliance” that endangered the safety of both airline crew and airport security personnel.
The altercation reportedly began when Ms. Emmanson refused to follow standard safety procedures regarding mobile phone usage during landing.
Matters escalated as she allegedly assaulted several individuals, including Ibom Air cabin crew member Ms. Juliana Edward, Aviation Security (AVSEC) officers from BASL and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), and other security personnel during her transport and processing.
She has since been handed over to FAAN AVSEC for further investigation, while the Nigerian Police Force Airport Command has been notified and is monitoring the case.
In a strongly worded statement, BASL’s Head of Corporate Communications, Ajoke Yinka-Olawuyi, stressed that such conduct would not be tolerated under any circumstances.
The company’s zero-tolerance policy specifically covers: physical assault or threats against airline crew members; violence or aggression towards airport security personnel; non-compliance with aviation safety regulations and lawful crew instructions; any disruptive acts that compromise the safety and security of passengers and staff.
BASL warned that passengers engaging in violent or disruptive behaviour at MMA2 face immediate intervention by trained security operatives, detention and investigation, prosecution under Nigerian aviation laws, potential placement on airline and airport restriction lists, and liability for any resulting losses or disruptions.
The airport operator urged all travellers to respect airline and airport personnel, comply with safety protocols without hesitation, and promptly report suspicious or concerning behaviour to security staff.
“We remain committed to delivering world-class aviation services while maintaining the highest standards of safety, security, and customer experience,” Yinka-Olawuyi affirmed.
