NiMet Inaugurates Anti-Corruption Unit, Reinforces Drive for Transparency, Accountability
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has inaugurated and inducted newly appointed members of its Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU), in a move aimed at strengthening institutional integrity and reinforcing accountability across the agency.
The inauguration ceremony, held as part of NiMet’s broader reform agenda, underscores the agency’s renewed commitment to promoting ethical conduct and transparency in its operations.
Speaking at the event, the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of NiMet, Professor Charles Anosike, described the development as a significant milestone in the agency’s ongoing efforts to entrench a culture of accountability.
According to Anosike, the establishment and expansion of ACTU align closely with NiMet’s 2026–2030 Strategic Plan, which is anchored on the core values of Integrity, Professionalism, Accountability, Commitment, and Excellence (I-PACE).
He noted that the unit plays a vital role as an internal mechanism designed to prevent corrupt practices while promoting transparency within the organisation.
Highlighting efforts to enhance the unit’s effectiveness, the NiMet boss revealed that the membership of ACTU has been increased from five to eight members, a move intended to improve inclusiveness and operational efficiency.

He stressed that combating corruption is a shared responsibility, calling on all staff members to embrace ethical standards as a fundamental part of the agency’s institutional culture. “Integrity must not only be preached but practised at all levels,” he implied, urging personnel to align their conduct with the agency’s guiding principles.
Also speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Dr Musa Adamu Aliyu, who was represented by Mr Olusegun Adigun, commended NiMet’s management for its proactive stance in institutionalising ACTU within the agency.
He emphasised the importance of sustained collaboration between NiMet and the ICPC, noting that such partnerships are essential for strengthening credibility, enhancing public trust, and ensuring adherence to anti-corruption standards in public institutions.
In his closing remarks, Anosike charged the newly inducted ACTU members to discharge their duties with diligence, integrity, and professionalism.
He assured them of the full support of the agency’s management, while reaffirming NiMet’s unwavering commitment to transparency, accountability, and national development.
The inauguration of the ACTU marks another step in NiMet’s efforts to align with national anti-corruption frameworks and improve governance standards within Nigeria’s aviation and meteorological sectors.
